Union is a township in Union County NJ. As of the 2010 census, it has a population of approximately 56,642. In the 18th century, what is now Union was then called Connecticut Farms. Union was originally settled in 1667 as Connecticut Farms. It was incorporated as a township in 1808 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. Parts of the original township were taken to form other municipalities, and it became part of the newly formed Union County in 1857. The town takes its name from the County. Union is bordered by the Union County towns of Hillside, Elizabeth, Roselle Park, Kenilworth, and Springfield. It also borders the Essex County towns of Millburn, Maplewood, and Irvington.
