About Wanaque
Wanaque is a borough in Passaic County, NJ. As of the 2024 census it has a population of 11,346. It was incorporated as a borough in 1918 when Pompton Township was split into three boroughs along with Bloomingdale and Ringwood. The borough’s name is said to be from a Lenni Lenape Native American word (we-na-kee) meaning “land of sassafrass”. Wanaque is bordered by the Passaic County municipalities of Bloomingdale, Pompton Lakes and Ringwood.
