About Upper Freehold NJ 08501
Upper Freehold is a township in Monmouth County, NJ. As of the 2020 census, it has a population of approximately 7,273. It dates to 1731 at which time it was formed from portions of Freehold Township. It became formally incorporated as a township by the Township Act of 1798 of the New Jersey Legislature. Over the years its area has diminished somewhat. The name Upper Freehold comes from Freehold Township, which in turn is derived from the English term “freehold” a legal phrase indicating “free simple property ownership”. Upper Freehold is bordered by the Monmouth County municipalities of Allentown, Millstone and Roosevelt.
