About Manalapan NJ 07726
Manalapan is a township in Monmouth County, NJ. As of the 2020 census, it has a population of approximately 40,905. The Battle of Monmouth in 1778 was fought on land that is now part of Manalapan. The township was formed in 1948 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. “Manalapan” is from the Lenape Native American language with various meanings: “land of good bread”, “good land to settle upon”, “good bread”, or “covered swamp with edible roots”. Manalapan is bordered by the Monmouth County municipalities of Freehold, Marlboro and Millstone. It completely surrounds Englishtown making it part of 21 “doughnut” towns in the state of New Jersey, where one town completely surrounds another.
