About Fairfield NJ 07009

Fairfield is a township in northwestern Essex County, NJ.  As of the 2010 census, it has a population of approximately 7,475. What is today known as Fairfield was originally formed in 1798 as Caldwell Township. After numerous changes in the status of Fairfield, it became a township in 1978 based on a referendum. The exact origin of its name has never been determined. Fairfield is bordered by the Essex County municipalities of North Caldwell and West Caldwell.
