About West Milford
West Milford is a township in Passaic County, NJ. As of the 2020 census it has a population of 24,862. It started as New Milford in western Bergen County in the 18th century. There was another New Milford in the eastern part of Bergen County and when they both applied for a Post Office in 1828, a clerk gave the eastern New Milford the first P.O. and named the other West Milford and gave it the second one. Passaic County was formed in 1837 and West Milford was the western border of the new county. West Milford is named for Milford, Connecticut. West Milford is bordered by the Passaic County municipalities of Bloomingdale and Ridgwood.
